Looking at my dashboard, on the featured side, I see such a solid way of trying to get people to donate to a good cause. A brief description on why or what’s going on. However, I can’t help but feel awkward when I’m asked at school by the Japanese Student Organization asking for donations to aid Japan. I have donated before to them when they were tabling outside the Cesar Chavez Center, but today when they were approaching people I don’t think it was as productive as the Japanese students wanted it to be.
I felt awkward because a single girl from a group of three, holding a clipboard with very little printed words on it indicating it was for donating to Japan, was standing silently in front of me not saying a single word to me or anything. I was studying/reading so my head was faced downward into my textbook. Not a single word or hi, she just stood in front of me for a bit, I looked up because I noticed from the corner of my eye these pair of shoes were next to me for a little bit too long. I apologized that i didn’t have cash, but I watched go up to the next person doing the same thing… I think it would have helped a little if she said, “Hello, would you like to donate?” but that whole silence thing didn’t catch anyone’s attention. I hope she was able to get some money but I’m still kind of puzzled by it.
ehhh but I guess I don’t know a better way to ask either…
